I'd say Web Tech. Web 2.0 is proof that systems, social sites and basically interaction as a whole is moving from the local computer to the worldwide web. Why do something small when you can act global? I guess in the end its your decision about what you enjoy more... that is the biggest thing for me... if you don't like what you do, why do it?

MBA in UCLA vs MS Information Technology in CSUF

MBA in UCLA vs MS Information Technology in CSUF?
I'm working as Web Developer / Programmer and planning to get Master Degree within 1~2 year and still debating between MBA or MSIT. Based on my own research, seems like most company are looking for employee who have MBA degree than MSIT, is that true ? And also which one is better....having a master degree from UC or Cal State ? Just for additional information, the MS IT in CSUF is online, not on-campus. thanks in advance!

The MBA is much better as big corp are looking for people who can run the company. This is because IT is only good for supporting the operations of the company while the true task to make a company earn lots of money depend on the fact that the individual have some leadership and financial management qualities. A MBA goes a long way to aiding that prospect. And another thing is that management skill also means that you should be able to take charge of situations like managing people who abuse the sick leave , transport claim system and take frequent unannounced leaves.

Does your work give a credit for a MBA in general or more for a specific type? I've seen it go both ways. My buddy is an engineer, but the place he works doesn't care what your masters is. I've another engineer buddy who got a masters in his specific field because his company does care. In general, UCLA's Anderson school of Business is one of the best in the country. A masters is going to look better from a UC over a Cal State. Cal States have a program here or there that might prepare you for work better than a UC straight out of undergrad. Get into the grad school arena and you're almost always going to be much better off having gone to the UC. Still, an MBA vs MS IT is a bit hard to compare. In this case, I'd liken it to a Ferrari (UCLA MBA) vs. a $300 Trek road bike (Cal State Fullerton MS IT). Heads up, the Ferrari is going to kick the bike's butt. It's that obvious. However, if you're riding in the Tour de France, the Ferrari isn't going to be eligible so the bike would be better. Just like your work. If only the MS IT will give you advancement/raise opportunities, you might be better off with the MS IT. If you ever decide to leave the company or work for one that gives equal weight to any masters, the MBA from UCLA is the only choice.

What do you want to do with it? If you *definitely* want to stay in IT and have no intention of transitioning into management or finance or any other area, you might be better off with the MSIT. If you think you might want to move into something other than IT, you're probably better off with the MBA, as it is a more general degree and can help you transition into different areas. If you are asking which is more prestigious, a master's from a UC or a Cal State, I would say the UC master's degree is more prestigious.

You'd get a job in the same way you got one in the UK. Your UK masters degree is completely acceptable in the US - it's considered equivalent to a US masters. Are you legal to work in the US? If not, then that's a serious issue. But if so, try starting with monster.com to see what jobs are available in your region. Also check your local newspaper's classified ads - which they may have online. If there is a professional society for your type of IT work, then join it, and go to the networking meetings. Also use their job ads. That can be a really good source.
