what jobs are there for someone majoring in both information technology and health & human wellness?
My husband is majoring in interdisciplinary studies specializing in information technology and health & wellness and has a certificate in computer networking...what kinds of jobs are out there for computer people who also want to work in health & medical field (particularly networking)? Also, how much more beneficial is it for him to go for his masters in Information Technology?

"assistive technology" is emerging as a speciality field - the concept is to connect people with disabilities to technology (be it "high-tech," like computers, or "low-tech," like an automatic can opener). You see a lot of assistive technology in the home makeover shows that feature accommodations for people with special needs. Computer networking itself may not tie-in with the disability field, but there are numerous software programs out there that help people with hearing impairments, speech impairments, and even people with limited mobility (through devices such as headpointers that integrate with touchscreens). If your husband is interested in such a thing, he could look into assistive technology programs - every state has one - and the vocational rehabilitation offices to see if he could become a counselor. The pay isn't necessarily top-tier, but it could be very rewarding.

The two fast-growing fields for the next 10 years are the medical and computer fields (in spite of out-sourcing) and networking and working with databases are the hottest of the computer jobs. Any organization dealing with medical services would love to hire someone who understood their specific field, instead of hiring someone who only understands computers or business in general, like typical graduates and people in the computer field (like me!). 1) Medical and health services managers need to have business and medical backgrounds: A bachelor’s degree is adequate for some entry-level positions in smaller facilities, at the departmental level within health care organizations, and in health information management. Graduates with bachelor’s degrees in health administration usually begin as administrative assistants or assistant department heads in larger hospitals. They also may begin as department heads or assistant administrators in small hospitals or nursing care facilities. Median annual earnings of medical and health services managers were $67,430 in May 2004. He could be a computer network analyst, later a networking manager, or a computer systems analyst. Usually for IT its an MSc - at least all I have seen are like that. But I suppose an MA (Master Arts) is possible. Thanks Bill
