What is the difference between a M.S graduate degree and a Masters graduate degree ?
Some colleges and universities in the U.S. name their graduate degrees as M.S in "abc " eg) M.S., in Computer Science, M.S., in Information Technology and M.S., in Software Engineriing while some "only" name these deegrees as Master of "abc" eg) Master of Information Systems, Master of Information Technology and Master of in Software Engineriing What is the difference between between a grduate degree being called as Master of "abc" and M.S in "abc "? Is the difference between those graduate degrees which do not have pre-requisite courses being called as Master of "abc" and those with a requirement of pre-requisite courses calling as M.S in "abc "? Or their is no difference whatsoever in this nomenclature? Its is just a University and College policy to name their particular graduate degree as M.S in "abc " and Master of "abc"? Can anyone throw some light on this?

The exact degree requirements will vary slightly depending upon the educational institution itself. Where I went to school you could get a "Master of 'abc'" or a "M.S. of 'abd'". (Note the regular "Masters" was also known as the Masters of Arts degree.) The difference being that the M.S. degree required a few extra courses in the degree plan and these courses were required to be a specific science designated within the degree. In some cases the "M.S." degree requirements were also more involved in the research project. In any case the M.S. degree requirements are generally more demanding than the Masters of Arts degree.

Master's degrees fall into various categories, but there are generally 4 or so overarching categories. M.A. Master's of Arts - most fine arts, humanities, and behavioral science degrees (sociology, economics) fall into this category M.S. Master's of Science - most natural science, computer science and sometimes behavioral science (especially applied, like applied psychology or counseling psychology) fall into this category. {just as an aside, some schools, like Johns Hopkins, refers to their M.S. degrees as Sci.M, but for all intents and purposes, its the same} M. Ed - Master's in Education. Meaning you have a degree in one of the Educational disciplines, like...Education, or Special Ed, or Instruction, or Guidance and Counseling, etc. MSW - Master's of Social Work. Having a concentration in that one field. Similarly, an MDiv is a Master's of Divinity, having a concentration in this. So is a Master's in Public Health (MPH). These are considered SPECIALIZED degrees, in fields that aren't arts, science, or education, but sort of a combination. MBA - Master's of Business Administration. Similar to the specialized degree, however, in the working world, an MBA is considered a TERMINAL degree, meaning it is considered the highest one can achieve in a given field {which translates into "more pay". And frankly, it's not true anymore; there are doctorate's in Business Admin, but virtually all of them teach} Other examples of terminal degrees are PhDs, JDs (law degrees), MDs, and (to some degree) MPH {although there are DPHs}. When you get down to it, the difference between a Master's of Information Technology and an M.S. in Information Tech is all semantics; technically a Master's in IT is an MS in IT. Nobody sees you as "more qualified" because you are one or the other. Hope that clarifies it for you.

well, the MS has the more general discipline and that it is more broad and quite "hard". on the other hand a Master's degree focuses on specific disciplines to which the specialization is more defined than the MS degree.

Which IT degree will help me work from home
Which IT degree will help me work from home?
I am a young professional, almost 2 years out of college with a Bachelors in engineering, and I work in the Information Technology industry (I'm currently a software tester). I want to find a job I can do from home, but they are few and far between. Would a Masters degree (in Information Technology) help me find a telecommuting position? I want to work in software, not call-center stuff or telemarketing. Does anyone have tips on what telecommuting managers are looking for, or if there's anything else I should be doing? A side note - I work for the government as a contractor, and in my group the gov. employees are allowed to work from home once a week, but not the contractors. It's frustrating!

All of them as long as you can find your niche. Lots of topics about this at http://job.lifequery.com and there are new topics every day. Good luck.

Why not try to make yourself extremely valuable on your current contract by delivering consistent results? Then you might be able to make the case that the perk of working from home should be extended to contractors too. If you are able to prove how productive you are working from home, you might be able to increase the number of days that you work from home. I don't think obtaining a master's degree would help you to get a telecommuting position.

Is it possible for a foreign national to obtain the Citizenship (or Permanent Residency) of Jordan in any way
Is it possible for a foreign national to obtain the Citizenship (or Permanent Residency) of Jordan in any way?
I am an Indian national. I am in my early twenties. I have a Masters degree in Information Technology. I am planning to work in Jordan soon. Once I retire, I want to live in Jordan permanently. But I'm worried as to whether it is possible for a foreign national to live in Jordan permanently after retirement? Is it possible for me to live in Jordan permanently by marrying a Jordanian citizen? Is there any other way? Please explain.

I got a BA in art, can I get my MA in technology management
I got a BA in art, can I get my MA in technology management?
I have no knowledge of programming at all. I only know a little html and CSS, but not C++. Can I apply to the Master's program for technology management, and they'll teach me programming there? Or should I get an associate's degree in information technologies THEN go get my masters? Can you recommend me some schools? I heard they have to be accredited with some tech organization to really get my money's worth. Help?

You can always apply, but there will probably be prerequisites that you don't have. Check with the admissions/advising department for the tech program you want and ask them what they recommend. You might not need to get an Associates, you might just need a few extra classes. They can tell you about the accredidation recommendations as well and maybe recommend some good volunteer experience that might increase your chances. Good luck!

Not all Technology is Computers. If you specialize in Transportation when you take Technology Management, you do not need to know any programming at all. Zero. Zip.

I am not familiar with either Uni, but I would recommend going across the creek to NZ, perhaps Otago or Canterbury. I was an international student in music at Canterbury for 5 months in 2005 and loved every moment of it. They manage all their IT stuff in-house with their own students, I think. You may want to look into it.

Try http://www.australian-universities.com/ for links to all Australian universities and rankings. Sydney is major city and Canberra is a relatively small town populated mostly by federal public servants. Canberra is probably cheaper for people who live there permanently but has fewer accommodation choices for students so the average cost is likely to work out higher. Parts of Sydney will have very expensive accommodation (but that's not where students live anyway). The costs of services, groceries, etc will be very much the same. Sydney has better public transport but Canberra is smaller and less complicated to get around. On the other hand, Canberra is situated in a country area and you may be more likely to need a car than you might in Sydney. Sydney has vastly more social and entertainment options than Canberra but I guess that you could say that Canberra has fewer distractions for a serious student. Sydney would have more part-time work options for a student. I think that your basic choice here is whether you would prefer to live in a large city or a small town.
